Your website is often the first place people go when they hear about your business. But even with the best intentions, it’s easy for small businesses to make simple website mistakes that cost them customers, credibility—and even search rankings.

Here are the top five mistakes we see time and time again, and how to fix them.

1. No Clear Call-to-Action (CTA)

You’ve got people on your site—great! But what do you want them to do next? Call you? Book a consultation? Fill out a contact form? If you don’t guide them with clear, visible CTAs, they’ll likely leave without taking action.

Fix it: Add simple, bold call-to-action buttons—like “Book a Free Call”, “Get a Quote”, or “Buy Now”—in strategic spots throughout your site.

2. Not Mobile-Friendly

If your site isn’t easy to use on a smartphone or tablet, you’re alienating more than half your visitors. Pinching, zooming, or unreadable text is an instant turn-off—and Google won’t rank you well either.

Fix it: Make sure your website is fully responsive and designed with mobile-first users in mind. (Hint: We can help with this!)

3. Outdated Design or Content

A tired-looking website sends the wrong message: that your business is behind the times or no longer active. That includes outdated visuals, old blog posts, or expired offers.

Fix it: Keep your site fresh with updated imagery, regular blog posts or news, and a design that feels modern and trustworthy.

4. Slow Loading Times

Users won’t wait more than a few seconds for your site to load—especially on mobile. A slow website leads to high bounce rates and poor SEO.

Fix it: Optimise your images, streamline your code, and invest in reliable hosting. Your visitors (and Google) will thank you.

5. Poor Navigation

If visitors can’t find what they’re looking for in a few clicks, they’ll leave. Confusing menus, broken links, or missing key info (like opening hours or pricing) can all create friction.

Fix it: Simplify your navigation, test it on real users, and make sure the most important pages are easy to reach.

Your website doesn’t have to be flashy—but it does need to be functional, fast, and user-focused. Avoiding these five common mistakes can make a huge difference in how people see (and trust) your business online.
